Virus Removal

Is your computer running really slow?
Are you getting error messages that keep popping up?

If your hardware is running ok on your computer, but you have various software error messages popping up, then you could have any one or more of the following.

  • Malware
Malware includes, Viruses, Worms, or Trojan Horses, these usually infect the afflicted computer and are usually downloaded with-in software from non reputable sites, usb external drives or drive like devices, floppy disks, they can also come in emails as attachments, that's why is always wise to delete emails from people you don't know. Once your computer is infected with the malware, it will try to replicate itself and spread through out your system, certain worms will attempt to send out emails to all your contact list thereby spreading the Worm or Virus.  A Trojan Horse will usually try and comprimise the security of your system, when this happens a back door is opened for an intruder from outside to gain access to your system, this is usually done to try and steal data that can be sold on, i.e. bank details customer accounts if you are a business, this could be quite drastic.

  •  Spyware
What is spyware?
computer software that obtains information from a user's computer without the user's knowledge or consent, How do you know that you have spyware?
If your homepage changes and when you change it back it reverts back to whatever you changed it from after rebooting your computer, then this is one of the signs, if your search engine changes or you find extra tool bars in your browser this could be another sign of infection, more than any, spyware is found to be the main problem, we generally find this on about 90% of peoples computers that we have brought into us.

  • Pop-Ups
Advertisements that keep popping up, relating to sites you are not looking at, these can be and quite often are of offensive material, this can happen even when just using your computer and not browsing the internet and can be become very troublesome.

Another thing that can happen is when you attempt to install any new software, you find that your systems grinds almost to an halt.

Virus Protection

How can i help avoid these problems occurring?
Make sure you have Antivirus software installed and that the virus definitions are up to date, there are plenty of  free ones available on the interent.  If you haven't got an all in one sucurity suite, such as Norton Internet Security, then make sure before connecting to the internet your firewall is enabled, make sure that you have all the latest service packs and crytical updates installed has this will help to prevent any viruses from gaining control over your system.  Before opening any files, its always a good idea to check them first with your antivirus software.
You will also need to make sure you got anti spyware software installed.

Computer Factory Reset

A computer factory reset will reset your computer or laptop back to its factory settings, this means that any software installed or any files saved on your system will be lost unless your data (pictures, documents, music, etc) is backed up to either CD/DVD media or some other external drive first.

What if i already have a problem?
Any of the above mentioned could cause your system to run poorly, if you find that you are getting alot of error messages and your computer keeps freezing or rebooting etc, you could perform a system restore, but before peforming this ensure that you have backed up any data as this could completely wipe  your drive.  Some computers either come with recovery CDs, which can be used to restore the computer or laptop back to its default settings, as when first purchased, but be aware these usually will reformat the drive and any data you have on there will be lost, if you don't backup that data first.

Some systems have what's called a recovery partition, this means you wont have any CD's you run the recovery simply by pressing a key or keys when starting up, this is normally explained in the users manual.
